Wild Sun Moon Red

Wild Sun Moon Red

$ 26.00
This Taiwan native cultivar is closely related to the Assamica subspecies of Camilla Sinensis quite famous in southern China, Southeast Asia and extreme eastern India. This large (up to 25cm!) leaf tea is used for the Puer tea we know and love. This tea is quite rare due to the fact that cultivation efforts have failed to produce drinkable tea. Only the wild, difficult to reach old growth version is drinkable and quite good at that! This is the mother of Taiwan Black tea and was used in developing the hybrid for the amazing Ruby 18. Leaves from this harvest bitten by tiny leaf hopper aphids brings out a unique sweet nuance on the palate.   Light floral, slight citrus with molasses-like finish. YuChi Region near Sun Moon Lake, Nantou County, Taiwan
